In November 2016, we had the special opportunity to invite Noni Thomas Lopez and her associate David Byrnes to work with our Emerging Leaders Institute cohort for an afternoon on the subject of racial identity, emotional intelligence and leadership development within the independent school context. Noni’s ability to outline both the broad theoretical and specific concrete dimensions of this work with our participants was nothing short of exceptional.

Her deep experience in the field as well as her command of the contemporary literature made her workshop a highlight for members of this two-year leadership program. Noni organized the facilitation of the session collaboratively with David, and this approach met the needs of our group very well. Her lessons and insights have resonated long after her session ended.

Dr. Lopez patiently and thoughtfully guided me through my recent job search. She asked me probing questions and provided helpful feedback as she reviewed my application materials and coached me on my interview and demonstration lesson.

Her attention to my needs and thorough knowledge of the market and culture of independent schools helped me to successfully land my current head teaching position and gave me a better understanding of how to effectively navigate the New York City independent school world. Most importantly, I felt cared about as both a person and a professional.
